#Designspiration – Royal Ideas for the Bedroom

The splendour of imperial palaces and royal castles have always captivated us. Maybe we were enthralled by the sheer luxury that we common-folk could only dream about. Perhaps it’s the fact that these royal people were special, and we wanted to be special too.

Regardless of the reasons, the opulence and majesty of royal court life seems so fascinating that we can’t help but imagine what it would be like to be one of the #royals.

While our #royalgoals are well … just goals, we can still get a touch of royalty by applying these tips to our bedrooms. #RoomsFitforRoyalty

TIP 01 The Colour Scheme

To create your very own “royal suite”, start first with the colour scheme. Nothing screams “ROYAL” than rich, jewel-toned hues.

Whatever you decide, the colour scheme will start of the “royal vibe” of your room.
Now, you don’t need to paint your walls pure red or use expensive wallpaper (although that would be a BIG HELP). You can use royal reds and blues for the general tone for accents and pair it with dove white or light grey walls.

Here are some suggested colour schemes

Marie Antoinette was considered the pinnacle of fashionable taste during her heyday. For her private bedroom, she chose a light shade of jade and complimented it with the ever present gold and verdant red tones. Take a #stylecue out of Marie Antoinette’s private boudoir to your own rooms.

One of the iconic areas of the Buckingham Place is the White Drawing Room. Though we think it should be called the “Gold” drawing room instead (trend alert: gilding), the colour scheme is nevertheless warm, regal and inviting. Use a light dominant colour for your walls, say dove white, and uses the warm reds and golds as accents for a bright and sunny royal suite.

TIP 02 The Royal Drapery

The Royals of the world are known to use only the best materials for their rooms, especially in the drapery. From ermine-lined to velvet to silk, the Royals only want the best.

But of course, we common folk don’t have the Royal Treasury to finance our room decors. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have our own version of the best.

To get that royal vibe for your rooms, just use THICK Floor length curtains and draping. Apart from the luxe feel of thick curtains, thick curtains and draping provide better insulation for the cold weather and adds privacy to your bedroom. This way, you’d get value for your buck while having that palace suite vibe to your room.

TIP 03 Gild-y Pleasure

One thing the royals know how to do well is to make a statement. What better way to show off their imperial majesty and power than gold? Gold and gold leafing are staples in any royal address around the world. Why not take a gold leaf (pun intended) and add gold to your interiors? Use gild fixtures, frames and interior pieces and instantly transform the royal vibe of your room. Supplement the glittering gold with crystal chandeliers and mirrors to complete the look.
